Bamboos - Clumping - Fargesia robusta

Fargesia robusta

This picture is of a two year old planting in one of

our propagation beds. You can easily see how it

is doubling in size from the previous years

growth.  It already has some shoots over 6' tall.

Fargesia robusta makes  a narrow screen, being

taller, more upright  and more robust than some of

the other Fargesia's, particularly nitida and

murielae. Ours are planted in the full sun, easily

taking over 100
fº.  Dark green foliage and light

green culms. New shoots are red.  This bamboo adds great color to any garden.

Soil:  A well drained, loamy soil is ideal for most bamboo.  With non water

types of bamboo, good drainage is essential, to avoid root rot.  Add organic

matter to amend the soil if necessary.  Bamboo is a heavy nitrogen feeder.

Remember that fresh bark can rob nitrogen as it decomposes.
